Cushing's Bundles

Cushing's disease (hyperadrenocorticism) in dogs occurs when the adrenal glands overproduce cortisol. Approximately 85% of cases are pituitary-dependent, caused by a benign tumor on the pituitary gland. The remaining 15% are adrenal-dependent, involving a tumor on the adrenal gland. Symptoms include increased thirst, frequent urination, excessive panting, weight gain, and a pot-bellied appearance.

The melatonin and lignan protocol, originally researched at the University of Tennessee, is among the most studied natural approaches. Melatonin may inhibit enzymes involved in cortisol production; SDG lignans from flaxseed help regulate SHBG, often elevated in Cushing's dogs. Veterinary supervision is recommended.
