Asthma and Respiratory Issues in Dogs

Dogs naturally pant when they are hot or fatigued. But watch for clues that may indicate asthma, a potentially life-threatening condition in dogs. Asthma in dogs (as with humans) is essentially an allergic reaction to something in the environment. Exposure to the allergen triggers inflammation and uncontrolled mucus or fluid production that may block or narrow airways to make breathing difficult.

What are the Symptoms of Asthma and Respiratory Issues in Dogs ?

1. Extreme Panting

You dog stars panting more heavily and it lasts longer than usual. Look for “wide mouth” breathing and extreme expansion and contraction of chest muscles.

2. Coughing

Coughing, wheezing or seeming to be out-of-breath are also very common signs of respiratory problems, accompanied by loss of energy or appetite.

 3. Pale or Blue Gums

If you notice your dog's gums turn pale or blue it's usually a sign of a severe attack. Take your dog to the vet immediately.
