The Proper Dosage of CBD for Dogs (Infographic by Greencamp)
Breaking News- Colorado State University Study Confirms CBD Oil is Effective for Dog Seizures
It’s no secret that CBD helps dogs as much as it does humans. The reason for this is, of course, the hidden relationship between cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system, which all mammals have.
CBD has shown to be a powerful compound for dogs. Dog parents in various forums and case studies report a plethora of positive effects, like relief from allergies, skin issues, seizures and pain. Not to mention anxiolytic and nerve calming effects which can literally save doggie lives when there are fireworks and other havoc outside.
Now that more and more people are positive on the effects of cannabidiol for dogs for health conditions and even seizures, only one thing remains up for debate — how to properly dose CBD?
There are, of course, many different opinions on this topic, but Greencamp, one of the most trusted medical cannabis blogs, recommends a steady and reliable approach which gradually increases the dosage until you see your dog feeling better.
The trick is to get the initial dosage right and then incrementally increase the daily amount over the course of several weeks. In order to do that, you would follow the 3-tier dosage plan, which goes like this:
Tier 1 (low dosage): 0.05 mg x lb / twice daily
Tier 2 (medium dosage): 0.125 mg x lb / twice daily
Tier 3 (high dosage): 0.25 mg x lb / twice daily
So, with this plan, you would start your dog off with Tier 1, observe for a week and then decide whether to move on to Tier 2 or stay on Tier 1. Getting that fine balance is crucial, as high-quality CBD can be quite costly, so you don’t want to give your dog more than it needs.
